Embedded Signup

In this section, you will get acquainted with the embedded signup, which is a way for businesses to onboard to the WhatsApp Business API directly from BSP website. This embeddable onboarding flow simplifies the current process, reducing onboarding from days to a matter of minutes, and giving access to Businesses to control their WhatsApp Business Accounts.

With embedded signup, businesses own their WhatsApp Business Accounts (WABAs) and share access to it directly with their Business Solution Provider.

This account model allows customers to see their WhatsApp Business Accounts in their Business Manager and seamlessly integrate with other Facebook experiences, such as Ads that Click to WhatsApp.

Requirements before Registeration

Before starting the process prepare the following details so you can have smooth registration:

*Display Name

  • which name you would like to have once your account is verified
  • Phone number you want to register with WhatsApp
    • You will receive 2FA code on this number
  • About section
    • Maximum 512 characters description of your business

The Embedded Signup Process

1102
  1. Log in to Facebook
The individual signing up must log in with their personal Facebook account to create or link a Business Manager account. They must use an existing Facebook account as newly created accounts will not be able to create Business Manager accounts.

  2. Share WhatsApp Business Account with unifonic

As the business owns the WhatsApp Business Account within their company’s Business Manager, they must share permissions with the unifonic to allow the unifonic to manage their account.

Business will share:

  • Account access to allow the BSP to create templates, add phone numbers, send messages, access metrics and assign users to the account
  • Billing management permissions. By default, a business is billed through the unifonic’s monthly invoice.
  1. Create or Link Business Manager account

If you don’t have Business Manager, you would need to create one by entering legal business name, business phone number/website and work email address.

If you already have Business Manager created, you must be the admin of the account in order to set up WhatsApp Business Accounts.

  1. Create or Link WhatsApp Business Account

If there is no WhatsApp Business Account, create a new one by adding account name and billing time zone.

If WhatsApp Business Account is already created then select existing WhatsApp Business Account.

  1. Select a display name

The business must then add a display name that they will use to message customers.

The display name must meet Facebook Display Name Guidelines.

If the display name represents a business that the company is working with (i.e., if the business is an agency, distributor, partner, or parent company), then the relationship between the business represented in the display name and end-client business must be evident and clear in both parties’ business websites.

For example, if Global Voyager signs up for WhatsApp and wants to use the display name Commercial Air, they must submit links to both websites stating that Commercial Air is a subsidiary of Global Voyager.

If the business checks the box to say that their display name is different from their legal business name, they will then be prompted to enter a link to a website citing the business relationship.

  1. Create your WhatsApp Business Profile

The business must then select their category and write a brief business description. The category and business description will both be visible to customers messaging the business.

Business description is optional and can be up to 512 characters.

  1. Select or register a phone number

The business should select an existing number or enter a new number to register. Business cannot register a number that is actively registered to either WhatsApp Messenger or the WhatsApp Business App. If you would like to register a number that is active on WhatsApp Messenger or the WhatsApp Business App then you have to perform number deactivation.

The phone number has to comply with the following requirements:

*Number must be in the E.164 international format and must be internationally reachable

  • Active during the verification process. Business will receive an SMS or a voice call for 2FA and confirm number ownership
  • No short codes
  • No toll free numbers

🚧

Note

In case Business wants to register Toll free number with IVR, unifonic will perform manual registration.
In case Business wants to perform Number migration from another vendor, unifonic will perform manual registration. Please contact us at [email protected]

  1. Verify the phone number

Once the business registers its phone number, it must verify it via either text message or voice call. They will receive a six-digit verification code to that phone number that they can input.

Once the business has verified their phone number, they are done with signup and ready to use the trial experience.

With the trial experience, they can send a limited number of messages to test the value and functionality of the API. We have provided sample message templates to help test notifications in the trial experience. In order to send more messages, they must request Business Verification.

In Trial experience Business can send business-initiated messages to 2 phone numbers and have 10 customer-initiated conversations for the first 30 days. This trial state is only valid for the first verified phone number for each WhatsApp Business Account.

If Business didn’t perform Business verification in 30 days, Facebook will disconnect phone number.

Rules for Unverified Trial Experience

Once a business completes the embedded signup flow, they can send messages before their business is verified by WhatsApp. This period is known as the unverified trial experience. There are 2 tiers to this:

  1. Unverified trial experience (upon completion of embedded signup)
  • Notifications: Can be sent to 2 phone numbers, up to 10 messages a day. You can use the pre-approved message templates to send notifications.
  • Customer Service Messages: Can be sent to 10 phone numbers.
  1. Expanded trial (upon submission of documents as part of Business Verification and after Facebook screen the documents)
  • Notifications: Can be sent to 2 phone numbers, up to 10 messages a day. You can use the pre-approved message templates to send notifications.
  • Customer Service Messages: Can have 1500 customer-initiated conversations. A conversation is a 24-hour window of messaging with a given phone number.

WhatsApp defines a conversation as a 24-hour session of unlimited messaging between a person and a business. The 24-hour conversation session begins when a business reply to a user message is delivered within the 24 hour window. You can use message webhooks notifications to monitor conversations —only messages with status sent, delivered, and read are impacted.

Business verification

Business verification confirms that a Business Manager account belongs to an actual business or organization.

In order to help them do this, Facebook may ask you to complete the business verification process. The process verifies your:

Business is a legal entity: Your business should be properly registered with official local authorities and have an official business phone number or mailing address.
Proof of access to your business: You must be able to receive a verification code sent to your business’s phone number or email address. Or, you can use the domain verification process to show proof of access to your business.

Facebook may also require you to submit additional documentation such as a certificate of incorporation or a business license.

How to start?

  1. Go to Business Settings.
  2. Click Security Center.
  3. Click on a button Start verification
  4. Enter Legal Business details
  5. Facebook then checks business details against third-party databases. If a record is found, the business can select a matching record. If none match the business’s correct information, the business should click ‘None of these match.’
  6. If the business finds and selects a matching record, they will next have to confirm business details and input a phone number they have access to
  7. The individual completing verification must then authenticate their relationship with the business by phone or email. They will receive a six-digit verification code to enter.
  8. If no matching record is found in the third-party database for automatic verification follow next section as you will have to upload documents to prove your Business.

Business verification

Upload Business documents

If your business is not listed when you attempt to verify it, you may be asked to upload official documents to prove that your business is registered. These documents must show the legal name of your business and your business’s official mailing address or phone number.

  1. The business then has to upload additional documents showing both the legal name and the mailing address or phone number.
  2. List of approved documentation can be found here (as for MENA you can refer to UAE documents)
  3. As with automatic verification, the business must then enter a phone number or email address where they can receive a verification code.
  4. Once the verification code has been submitted, a manual task will be created to review the legal documents. Once the case has been reviewed, the business will receive a notification in the Security Center and Business Information sections of their Business Manager account, as well as an email notification.

In case your Business cannot be approved check Issues with Business verification, where you can find detailed information about potential problems.
