Display name
The display name should accommodate the following rules
- Should not violate WhatsApp Commerce and Business policies.
- Be an accurate representation of your business
- Be consistent with External Branding
- Shows a clear relationship with your Business
- Follows correct formatting
Principle | Examples |
---|---|
Compliance with policies | A display name should not violate WhatsApp Commerce and Business policies. An example of a store that sells wine glasses; Accepted: ABC Wine Glasses Not accepted: ABC Wine Within your company, you may have separate WhatsApp business accounts for different divisions; only those divisions that are compliant with WhatsApp’s Commerce Policy may have a WhatsApp business account. |
Accurate representation of your business | A display name should represent: A business or its service, product, or department A test account or a demo account and it must maintain an association with the business (e.g., Fresh Produce Test) A display name should not be: An individual's full name A generic term (e.g., Fashion) A generic geographic location (e.g., New York) A slogan or a long description An organization with a government affiliation needs the WhatsApp team's approval |
Consistency with external branding | A display name must have consistent branding with external sources (e.g., a company's website or marketing). An example of a product line named "Fresh Produce Cold Pressed Juices": Accepted: Fresh Produce Cold Pressed Juices (how it is branded on your website) Not accepted: Fresh Produce Juices (you changed branding by removing "Cold Pressed") * Not accepted: FP Cold Pressed Juices (you added an abbreviation to the company name inconsistent with external branding) |
Clear relationship with your business | A display name must have a clear relationship with your business (must be referred to on the business's website or external media references). For example: Accepted: Name of a charity mentioned on a non-profit organization's website Not accepted: Name of a charity not mentioned on any external websites If the relationship between your company and the brand is not obvious, indicate the relationship using “by [company name].” Not accepted: Fruit Snacks (Fresh Produce owns the Fruit Snacks brand but their association is not mentioned on any external websites) Accepted: Fruit Snacks by Fresh Produce _If the display name represents a business that the company is working with (i.e., if the business is an agency, distributor, partner, or parent company), then the relationship between the business represented in the display name and end-client business must be evident and clear in both parties’ business websites. For example, if Global Voyager signs up for WhatsApp and wants to use the display name Commercial Air, they must submit links to both websites stating that Commercial Air is a subsidiary of Global Voyager._ |

You can still use this number for everyday purposes, such as calling and receiving messages after registering it on the WhatsApp Business Platform.
Mobile Numbers
Facebook will send an OTP to the number through SMS
The mobile number needs to be active and within your reach to get the OTP during the meeting
Landline Numbers
Facebook will send an OTP to the number through an automated Voice call
If the phone is connected to IVR then you will need to disable the IVR during the activation meeting
The number needs to be active and within your reach to receive the OTP voice call during the meeting
1-800 and Toll Free Numbers
Businesses may want to register a 1-800 or other toll free number. Facebook will send an OTP to the number through an automated Voice call from an international number
You will need to make sure that the toll-free number is able to receive international calls (as service providers by default for toll-free numbers disable international calls)
If the toll-free number is connected to IVR then you will need to disable the IVR during the activation meeting
The number needs to be active and within your reach to receive the OTP voice call during the meeting
To register a phone number that is behind an IVR system:
WhatsApp shares with you 1 or 2 phone numbers that the registration call will come from.
Create an allow list for these numbers. If you are unable to create an allow list for these numbers, add the phone number to your WABA and open a Direct Support ticket asking for the registration call phone numbers and include the phone number you are trying to register in the ticket.
Redirect the registration call to an employee or a mailbox to capture the registration code.
Phone numbers behind an IVR system that are unable to receive registration calls are not supported.
Phone Number Limits
Meta currently impose a 20 phone number limit across the Business Manager, which can have multiple WABAs. Only 20 phone numbers will be allowed across all WABAs for a single Business Manager. Legacy businesses and Official Business Accounts are exempt from this limitation. Some businesses may have lower phone number limits based on low message quality and engagement.
If you want to register more than 20 phone numbers across all your WABAs, please contact direct support and follow these steps:
Go to Ask a Question > WABiz: Account & WABA > Request type > Increase Phone Number Limits
Explain why you want to increase phone number limit and submit your request
If you do not have access to direct support, please contact Unifonic Support.
